My husband and I decided to use a doula for the birth of our second son following the emergency c-section birth of our first. I wanted to feel in control and fully informed of my choices from somebody separate from the medical profession and honestly, I think it was the best thing we could have done.
It is so clear that Léa is incredibly passionate about what she does. She is extremely well-informed and really helped me with decisions I had to make along the way. I found pregnancy quite tough, especially towards the end as I got to 42 weeks. Léa was so nurturing towards me, always checking in with me over the phone and in person, but certainly not in an overwhelming way. She cooked delicious nutritious meals and even gave me footbaths; it was a life-saver at that point.
As I got further down the line with no sign of an arrival, as is usually the case, I started to feel the full force of the medical profession and was starting to lose confidence in my thought process. At every step, Léa was there with helpful research and detailed evidence; she was incredibly supportive during a number of tricky conversations I had to have with obstetricians and the knowledge that she always had my back was so reassuring for my husband and I. In the end it was a planned C-section, but I felt so in control and very confident in the decision and that was all thanks to Léa.
The fourth trimester then rolled in and having her visit me regularly, again with delicious meals, teas and just a shoulder to lean on was honestly invaluable. Léa also has a little black book of amazing people to help you with everything from acupuncture and reflexologists to lactation consultants which I found very helpful and took full advantage of. I couldn't recommend her services highly enough.
