FAQ

WHAT IS A DOULA?
A doula is someone who has specialist knowledge in pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. We provide sensitive informed care to help families make the best choices for their births as well as physical and emotional support throughout the perinatal period.
I do not provide medical advice but signpost to the latest evidence and findings as well as provide information on what other parents in your position have found helpful.
-
DO YOU REPLACE A PARTNER?
If don’t have a partner or your partner is not able to be with you during the birth, having me as your doula can be an excellent alternative.
However, I seek to support both parents by providing a calm, confident presence during the birth, relieving both parents of any stress or anxiety. I love working with partners antenatally, giving an understanding of what you will be experiencing and practical information on how they can best support you.
-
DO YOU REPLACE A MIDWIFE?
No, I am not a medically trained professional.
However I am able to provide services that are sadly becoming harder for midwives to provide, due to the huge pressures they face in their industry.
I provide continuity of care, up to date evidence and information on best practice, and calm confidence in birth and body, physical and emotional support.
I am also there exclusively for you, to hold your hand both literally and figuratively through it all.

DO I NEED A DOULA?
This is a personal choice! Having a doula can reduce the likelihood of interventions and birth trauma and increase the likelihood of a positive birth experience, no matter how the birth unfolds.
Still unsure? Check out the below resources:
Emily Oster, economist, founder of ParentData and bestselling author of Expecting Better, Cribsheet and The Family Business makes an excellent case for why having a doula could be a good idea here.
Evidence Based Birth provides a comprehensive look at what a doula is and the evidence for them here.

WHEN SHOULD I GET IN TOUCH?
As soon as you think you might like to have the support I offer, email me to book a free initial call. There is no hard sell or obligation to take things further.
If we decide we’re a good fit and would be happy working together, we’ll agree what that looks like and I will send you a contract to sign. Following this, I will start seeing you on a monthly basis from that point onward, so the earlier you engage my services, the more sessions you get.

WHAT IF I CAN'T AFFORD IT?
I understand that doula fees may seem a lot, however, being your doula isn’t just a job for me, it is a vocation I am fiercely passionate about. My fee structure reflects my absolute dedication to each individual role, I bring everything I have to my work.
If you are able to pay in full, please do. This allows me the flexibility to provide compassionate rates for single parents, low income families and those fleeing violence.
